Without a Spanish NIE number, the Spanish tax authorities are unable to assess or process annual tax payments such as income tax (<em>IRPF<\/em>), and the annual wealth tax (<em>Patrimonio<\/em>), both of which are paid by non- resident property owners<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0\u00a0NIE number starts with a letter, followed by seven numbers and another letter in the end (example X \u2013 222827\u2013 B).
